Watermelon Pellionia (Pellionia pulchra)
With its patterned, deep green leaves this tough little plant is grown wonderfully as a cascading specimen or prostrate in a wide pot. Sometimes known as the Watermelon Begonia, it is not actually a Begonia at all!
It is an adaptable plant that will tolerate bright filtered light as well a shadier spot, the plant will display different growing habits in different environments with a sunnier spot intensifying the variation in the leaf patterns and colour. It requires only moderate watering.
While the flowers of the Watermelon Pellionia are hardly noteworthy, it is the way in which the plant disperses its pollen from its flowers that make it so fascinating with it sending out its pollen in little puffs – almost like smoke.
*Pot sold separately.
*As plants are natural products, form, pattern and colour will vary slightly.
