Alocasia ‘Red Secret’ (Alocasia cuprea ‘Red Secret’)

Alocasia ‘Red Secret’s has incredible leave. A rich, shiny, bronzey red, they’ll add real depth to your indoor jungle. 

In the wild, this plant grows across Asia, particularly in Borneo. The shape of its big leaves earned it the nickname ‘elephant’s ear’. Left to its own devices, it can grow much taller than an elephant – as much as 4 metres. As an indoor plant it won’t grow taller than about a metre, and will take a while to reach that.

Care

LIGHT
Prefers filtered light to bright indirect light. Requires high humidity to be happy and are extremely sensitive to the cold.

WATER
Keep moist over the warmer months, on the dryer side but not soggy or waterlogged. Reduce watering in the cooler months and check on soil frequently.

NUTRIENTS
Feed with slow-release fertiliser once every six months (refers to packaging for dosage). In the warmer months, feed fortnightly with a liquid fertiliser.

IDEAL TEMPERATURE
Warm to hot.
